ANGELA NWANERI,
Chief Operating Officer of First Cardiology Consultants
Angela is the Business Manager and Chief Operating Officer of First
Cardiology Consultants, a multi-specialist hospital whose mission is to
deliver the highest quality comprehensive Medical and Surgical care
through innovative use of modern technology and a commitment to local
capacity building, education and collaborative research.
She is also a member of the Healthy Heart Foundation by First Cardiology
Consultants, a non-profit organization with a mission to broaden access
to lifesaving therapies to under-served communities, and through
training and research to increase awareness of the prevention and
treatment of heart diseases.
Before joining FCC Healthcare, Angela was at Johnson & Johnson
(J&J), from where she retired in 2019 as Vice President and General
Counsel, Janssen Pharmaceuticals and the Consumer Group of Companies. As
General Counsel, she was a member of the Management Boards and led a
global team that was responsible for all legal matters concerning
J&J, worldwide. Prior to her legal career, Angela spent several
years on the business side and for several years held various rolls in
Marketing at 3M
An engineer
and patent attorney by training, Angela has held various positions in
the engineering and intellectual property arenas. As an associate at the
law firm of Oppenheimer Wolfe & Donnelly, she worked primarily in
Mergers & Acquisitions, IP litigation and served as legal counsel
and Corporate Secretary to several start-up companies. She was Senior
Division Patent Counsel for Corning Incorporated where she led a global
team responsible for their advanced materials patent portfolio. She
began her Johnson & Johnson career as Vice President, Patents for
Alza Corporation (a J&J company), where she also served on the
Management Board. And she would later assume global responsibility for
the patent portfolio of the J&J Consumer Group of Companies.
In the areas of public health and policy, Angela has counselled
organizations on the impact of global policies on affordability and
sustainable access to medicines in emerging markets, particularly
Africa. She represented J&J in various public-private partnerships
(PPPs) including the Gates Foundation, the Clinton Health Access
Initiative (CHAI), the Wellcome Trust and many other groups in
collaborations addressing neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and other
global health issues.
Her long career has taken her across the globe including several years
in Brussels where she led a global team responsible for the company’s
office of Global Public Health and helped guide its global IP Policies
at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), other UN
organizations, and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical
Manufacturers Association (IFPMA).
Angela holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (BChE) degree from the
University of Minnesota, an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, and
Juris Doctorate (JD Hons.) from William Mitchell College of Law.
She is the President and Founder of Ireze Foundation, a non-profit
organization that is focused on education of children in rural and
resource-limited areas of Nigeria. She serves on the Board of Monell
Chemical Senses Center, a research institute for the Advanced Discovery
in Taste and Smell.
Cathy Echeozo
Trustee Member
Cathy Echeozo presently manages Cathingens Empowerment Initiative, her
social intervention & Investment entity. She had a 33-year banking
career which started in 1984 with Chase Merchant Bank Nigeria. Cathy
also worked with Ecobank Nigeria Plc. She then began her 24-year career
with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) in 1993. She was appointed to the
Board of GTBank as an Executive Director in March 2005, and Deputy Chief
Executive Officer of the Bank in 2011 and served in that capacity until
her retirement in March 2017. Cathy also represented GTBank on the Board
of Nigerian Interbank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS) from 2008 till March
2017.
After her retirement from Banking in 2017, Cathy was appointed to the
Council of The Nigerian Stock Exchange as the Second Vice President and
also served as an Independent Director of Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers
Limited from 2017 – 2020.
Cathy presently also serves in the following capacities: - Non Executive
Director Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) -Chairman, NGX Regulation
Ltd, a subsidiary of the Nigerian Exchange Group - An external member of
CDC Group, the Development Finance Institution of the UK Government.
-Member, Finance Council. Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos. -Member, Board
of Trustees ICAN University
Cathy holds a first degree in Accountancy from the University of
Nigeria, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of
Maryland, University College, USA. She became a Fellow of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in year 2000 and a Certified
Information Systems Auditor in 2005.
Dr. Yemi Johnson
Co-Founder
Dr. Yemi Johnson is an intervention cardiologist who trained in Columbia
University New York and Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda
California. He worked in Mid Carolina Cardiology, Charlotte North
Carolina and Wake Forest University Medical Center Winston North
Carolina.Since starting FCC, he has pioneered contemporary invasive
cardiology in Nigeria including the first coronary angioplasty with stent
implantation, first non-surgical (percutaneous) closure of holes in the
heart for children and adults; and now performs these procedures
routinely.
Dr. Johnson has also established a non-surgical peripheral vascular
disease program to restore blood flow to blocked arteries of the arms and
legs. This program has helped salvage several limbs which hitherto would
have been amputated due to poor circulation. He has also initiated a
busy pacemaker and implantable defibrillator program which offers
prophylactic and therapeutic care to Patients with advanced cardiac
failure.
Prof. Kofo Ogunyankin
Co-Founder
Dr. Kofo Ogunyankin the Co Medical Director is a cardiologist and a
specialist in echocardiography. He trained in the United Kingdom being a
member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1991 as well as State
University of Stony Brook Long Island New York, University of California
Los Angeles (UCLA) and Tufts University New England Medical Center
Boston. He has been in academic practice and worked in Columbia
University New York, Queens University in Kingston Ontario Canada,
Northwestern University and Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute Chicago.
His research interests include early detection of heart disease
including hypertensive heart disease using echocardiography.The
echocardiographic laboratory at FCC is now the only Center in Africa
designated by the World Alliance of Societies of Echocardiography (WASE)
for the international multicenter study for deriving normative values of
various echocardiographic measurements.
Pascal Gabriel Dozie is the founder and former Chairman of Diamond Bank
Plc. On the contrary, the business guru is not only making waves in the
banking sector. He is also an accomplished investor with stakes in
several highly rated industries including MTN Group. In addition to
that, Pascal Dozie is the Chairman of Pan-Atlantic University and the
founding partner of Africa Capital Alliance.
Mohammed Hayatu-Deen is the Chairman of the Renaissance Development
Forum. He is an experienced banker, economist, project finance
executive, administrator, and elder statesman with about forty years’
experience across multiple Nigerian industries.
Hayatu-Deen started his career working in principal investments and
project finance at the Northern Nigeria Development Corporation
(subsequently New Nigeria Development Corporation) which at the time was
Nigeria’s largest industrial holding company with investments across a
range of industries, where he rapidly rose to the position of Group
Chief Executive and was responsible for providing leadership, direction,
and oversight to 140 subsidiary and associate companies under the group
portfolio.
He was subsequently appointed to head FSB International Bank –
previously the moribund Federal Savings Bank: with a mandate to turn
around and transform the institution into a viable and profitable
commercial bank. Hayatu-Deen was able to transform FSB into a major
Commercial Bank in Nigeria, which represents the best case of turnaround
management and privatization in Nigeria.
He founded the Alpine Group in 2005 – a project development company
focused on intervening in high- growth sectors of the economy through
direct investments. He currently holds the position of Vice Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer at Alpine Investments Ltd. Alpine’s flagship
project, the Ado Bayero Mall in Kano which has just been commissioned is
currently the largest shopping mall in operation in West Africa.
During his career, Hayatu-Deen has brought his broad experience in
Corporate and Investment Banking, Organizational Transformation, and
Project Management to various capacities in other organizations. He has
been Chairman/Director of several organizations including; Nigerian
Stock Exchange (Council Member), Northern Nigeria Investments Limited,
Nigeria Hotels Limited, Kaduna Textiles Limited, New Nigeria
Construction Company, Benue Cement Company, Sokoto Cement Company
Northern Nigeria, Virgin Nigeria Limited, Seven-Up Bottling Company, PZ
Cussons, Inlaks Computers Limited, among many others.
Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti has over three decades of management and
leadership experience as a Chartered Accountant and Banker. After a
stint in audit practice; he started his banking career in 1987 when he
joined the Nigerian-American Merchant Bank Limited (an Affiliate of Bank
of Boston). Out of the 27 years career span in Banking and other
financial services, sixteen of these years were spent in top leadership
positions as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of three
different Banks in Nigeria, Midas Bank in 1995, Eko International Bank
in 2002 and Skye Bank in 2010 and each time leaving on his own volition.
Durosinmi-Etti has been variously described as a leader, an astute
Banker, turnaround expert, a paradigm of professionalism with experience
that cuts across Operations, Technology, Treasury, Corporate and
Investment Banking. He is a highly experienced Chief Executive Officer
with integrated expertise in local and global financial markets,
corporate strategy and experience in boardroom and corporate governance
issues.
He holds a first degree in Economics from the University of lbadan and
he is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants
(FCCA) United Kingdom.
MR. JUSTIN OLABODE EMANUEL
A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Accountants of Nigeria and a
member of the Governing Council of the Musical Society of Nigeria. Mr.
Emanuel chairs the Board of several companies including Saipem Nigeria
Limited, Borini Prono, Hogg Robinson Nigeria, Nigeria Life and pension,
Universe-Re, etc and sits on the Board of several others. A member of
African Business Roundtable, Mr. Emanuel is a very active member of the
Nigerian Private sector, and a philanthropist of note. He also holds a
honorary doctorate degree of the Federal University of Technology,
Akure.
Cynthia Egbai,
Practice Manager at First Cardiology Consultants
Cynthia Egbai has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
In her over 12 years of experience, she has pioneered the setup of various medical and specialist facilities
which include Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy Centre (D&TEC) whose core goal was creating required
awareness for colorectal and gastric cancers; also, bariatric surgery as part of weight management. She
assisted in the setup of D&TET (Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy Training) a sister company offering
training to local clinicians in the endoscopy space in a bid to ensure sustainability by growing skill base
in Nigeria.
She left D&TEC to become COO of South Shore Women’s Centre where she set up the pediatric wing aiding the
rebranding of the facility to South Shore Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
She is presently Practice Manager at First Cardiology Consultants and on the board of Healthy Heart
Foundation as Executive Administrator; manning the daily activities of both entities.
